Chinese gamer addicted to video game.

Gaming addiction has surged to new heights in China during recent years, and a growing number of LAN cafes have opened across the country to capitalize on the increased demand. We've seen some funny things happen at these gamer hangouts, but this week something bad happened that serves as a reminder that we should get up every few hours to grab some Cheez-Its.

According to QQ and other Chinese sources, a currently unnamed gamer is currently being hospitalized after spending 20 hours straight playing League of Legends knockoff King of Glory at a cafe in Jiaxing, Zhejiang. It wasn't until he tried standing to pee for his first time in nearly a day that he realized he was paralyzed from the waist down.

Unable to move, paramedics were called to the scene to throw him onto a stretcher and take him to the emergency room. But before that could happen, he told his friends not to worry and to make sure they win the King of Glory match they were in the middle of. Only then would the health sacrifice be worth it.

Although his condition is still being stabilized, this appears to be more of a warning signal than a final judgment. It wasn't long ago that a Russian gamer died while playing in VR, and more similarly a Chinese gamer died while binge-playing League of Legends.

It was recent that the World Health Organization classified gaming addiction as a mental illness, seemingly putting an end to a multi-decade debate over whether or not playing video games could cause mental dependency similar to sex and drugs.

Be safe out there, my friends.
